The CSBGU is happy to inform you that we are planning a CSBGU Retreat for grad students this May!

Where: Hart House Farm (HHF) (Northwest of Brampton - 1 hr drive from downtown toronto) - 15911 Creditview Road, Caledon, ON, L7C 3G8
Who: CSB Grads, Post-docs, Lab techs,,, (AND their significant others!)
Activities: Hiking, Co-ed Outdoor Soccer, Board Games, Drinking, Music + Other legal yet crazy things (open to suggestions)

Fee: non-refundable $20 deposit if you can bring your vehicle. $25 if you need a ride. CSBGU is covering Food and Accomodation expenses.

Accomodation - Beds available at HHF. + Your own sleeping bag.
Food - BBQ, etc. Feel free to bring more yourself! vegetarian options upon request.
Yay, our department will finally have a retreat for students! We will be pushing this as an annual event for graduate students.
We are seeking your support as participants! We booked for 25 people in total. We may increase number to 35 ppl if we get a good response.

CSBGU Skip Trip
UPDATE: November 29 2010
Greetings CSBGU grads,
A message from our sports director, Andrew McKinley:
The CSBGU is planning a ski/snowboard day trip to Blue Mountain on
January 29th. The plan is to leave UofT (St. George Campus) campus in
the early morning and be in Collingwood when the hill opens at 9:00am.
We will ski/snowboard for the entire day until 4:30pm and then
return to UofT (St. George Campus).
The transportation for this trip will be partially subsidized by
CSBGU. Also If we can get more than 20 grad students interested, we
will receive a substantial discount on lift tickets. The three costs
for the trip: transportation (~$28 dollars per person, and will vary
depending on the number of individuals), lift ticket ($40 dollars),
and if you need to rent skis or snowboard($40-45 dollars). Total cost
per person will be either ~68 dollars or ~108 dollars.

In order for this trip to happen we need at least 20 people interested
with a maximum of 30 people. Also, we need to know by Friday December
3rd so we can reserve transportation. So if you are interested please

We are proud to announce that the
Halloween party is next week!
On top of that, there is also a
pumpkin carving contest that will be held.
Pumpkin Carving Contest Rules
1) Maximum 4 Adults per team (feel free to include more kids or forms a kid team).
2) Prepare your own knifes and carving tools
3) There will be limited teams in total. Teams will be first comes first serves base. RSVP asap (follow the RSVP steps below). You will be notified if all the slots are filled.
4) The contest will be an hour and half in length (starts at 6:10pm sharp).

Casual Advice about Serious Employment: Applying for jobs with the Canadian Government on Thursday, September 30th, 12pm, ES3056
Greetings CSBGU grads,
The speaker is Liz Nelson, she’s finishing her PhD on dendrochronological and dendrochemical approaches to quantifying effects of rising carbon dioxide on boreal forest dynamics. She’s accepted a position working on science policy in Ottawa, beginning very shortly. The title of her talk is “Casual Advice about Serious Employment: Applying for Jobs with the Canadian Government”. This (very informal) talk will be on Thursday, Sept. 30th at noon in ES3056 (round room). Bring your lunches.

Let's Talk Science Collaboration

Greetings CSBGU grads,
The
Let's Talk Science Partnership Program (LTSPP) is a national science outreach program run by Let’s Talk Science that partners graduate students with elementary/secondary school teachers and community groups to deliver hands-on science activities.
Each of the University Toronto campuses- Scarborough, Mississauga and St. George- runs a Let's Talk Science Partnership Program. Together these sites have over 200 volunteers and reach over 2500 children and youth per year across the Greater Toronto Area and in rural areas of Ontario.

Career Development Seminar Series Success!
Hi Grads,
On behalf of the CSB graduate students union, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you
for coming out on Wednesday afternoon and listening to some fantastic talks by Nellie, Vince, and Cory!
Personally, it was a great pleasure listening to their experiences and tips on their respective
topics and I hope you had equally enjoyed it! Our next Career Development Seminar Series will take place
on Wednesday February 17th and will feature talks on topics such as networking, conflict resolution, and
further career planning, and it will also include wine and cheese for your enjoyment.
Once again, thank you all for coming out and we hope that you enjoyed this informative and
enjoyable event!
